dd 10 year 6, will be doing her sats this year, my eldest who has significant Sen didn’t do them, so it’s all new to me!

dd has pretty severe dyslexia and dyspraxia, likely to be on the spectrum and/or adhd. She has an EHC plan.

I was told yesterday that teacher will be attempting to apply for a reader for her maths exams as she’s exceeding at maths but her ability to read the questions means she is scoring poorly on maths practise questions

didn’t have enough time to discuss this fully. Does this mean she’ll likely be doing her exams separately to the rest of her peers and will have help reading out the questions in her maths exam?

I think they are hoping this will help her achieve in maths, where otherwise her true maths ability will not be shown in the exams. In her teachers words she’s a fantastic mathematician!

You can see the rules on access arrangements for KS2 SATs here. A reader doesn’t require prior approval or notification. It needs to be the child’s normal way of working but it is a school level arrangement.

If DD needs a reader, she will sit the test separately to other DC. In maths, the reader will read the words and numbers but not signs/symbols. For example, they wouldn’t read the + or -.
