Can behaviour go downhill on gfcf diet

Hi

Just wondered if anyone can advise me. Daniel is following a complete gfcf diet and has been doing so for about 10 days. However for the past 3 or 4 days his "autistic" behaviours such as flapping and screeching have increased and he flails about in the pushchair, wont sit in his car seat. The nutritionist did advise that things could get worse before they get better but would love to hear others experiences good or bad.

Cheers

I'm sure i've read somewhere that this is 'normal' as its like a kind of 'withdrawal' thing? And it will improve

Please ....can someone who knows correct me if i'm wrong!!!???

I've read that it's a good sign - shows it's working (as Mum23ASD said, a kind of withdrawal). But probably doesn't feel very good to you atm!

I think that sort of reaction is a better sign than no reaction! Usually (and if gfcf is going to be any good imo) it passes pretty quickly and you start to see the benefits (then any infringement and you're back to it).

Do check you're not accidently giving him something though. DS1 had the same reaction about the same time period after he went gfcf and I found I was using the wrong baking powder It had flour in it! Removed it and he was fine again.

Many thanks for your replies. We had wondered about withdrawal symptoms. However he was already on a reduced diet but following his Sunderland results we decided to go 100%. Daniel has such a limited diet that he is mainly on gluten free cereal with rice milk and gluten free bread with dairy free cheese or jam. I am not sure on Rice Krispies as they contain barley (Tescos ones) but the nutritionist said Rice Krispies were okay...he has them nearly every day sooo...

ds1's diet used to be that restricted - he now eats very well (just to give you some hope!)

I did avoid Rice Krispies when ds1 was very strictly gfcf, although he has them now (he can cope with small amounts of things like barley now). I think I found a gluten free version of rice krispies though (in Sainsburys).
