Here are some links that may help you (I would say that you should start the Statementing ball rolling in Sept, the year before your ds starts school):

www.adders.org/info17.htm

www.autismlondon.org.uk/pdf-files/factsheets/021_Guide_to_Statementing.pdf

This Web site contains lots of information about Education in general:

Hi Bubbla,

A statement of educational needs basically its a legal binding document that states to amount and type of support a child needs. If your son is at nursery/pre school and needs support above what the pre school can provide then he will need a statement this gives the pre school extra funding from the LEA so they can provide the extra support.

The main thing is to apply for one before he starts school, you need to make sure that you do this atleast 12 mths prior to him starting school, as it takes a minimum of 6 mths to put in place.

IPSEAs website is a good place to look

here

Hope this helps

It is very confusing - I find it amazing that we are now at a point where ds has a statement, special school and DLA, not sure how we got it all together because info was def. not forthcoming and advice was scarce/useless. I really wish I'd known about mumsnet then and I could have tapped into this mine of info! Good luck, it probably seems like a minefield at the mo but you will get to a point where it's all in place and you can get on with enjoying your little boy!

if ed people are seeing you in 3 months then you are already on the radar and it is hopefully under control.
you can ask ds3 nursery (if he has one) if he needs additional help in the setting which they are unable to provide, and ask that they speak to the LEA about arranging assessment/ funding if so.

DD2 has been on 'School Action Plus' since 2 but has received all help (inc 1-1) without a statement until stat school age. It varies by area, and some like to have it in place earlier, particularly if a special school place is reqd.

sounds like everything is working out tho...

There is alot of information here, I have received alot of help from experienced people.

Hi bubblagirl

Who is actually going to come and visit you re education?. Don't just wait for the educational people to come and visit you in three months time - that will be September. Would not necessarily count on them either to provide answers or even real help (I know Brentwood!). Get the ball rolling yourself now!.

You are your son's best - and only - advocate. Never forget that.

My counsel to you is to get onto the nursery to ensure that they have 1 to 1 funding for your son.

The second piece of advice I would give you is to apply for the Statement for your DS to your LEA now. You need to write to the Chief Education Officer at the LEA and give them six weeks to apply. Would certainly suggest you read IPSEA's website; the details of which twocutedarlings gave you.

hi thanks for replies im not entirely sure its someone from education i think it could be about getting him onbe to one but as its only been a month since he was diagnosed i guess that might be right for timing to do this

will wait until they have come and then ask them if they can do this for me and where i go just worried that i should be doing more

we have SNAP on monday so will ask lady up there she'll know whats going on she was in meeting with me when he was assessed so may even remember who it was and why they were coming

thanks again as soon as i know where i am what is or isnt being done i know where to start so new to me im finding it stressful worrying scary and sometimes want it to go away as feel so like i cant cope

but its because i dont know what going on at moment im in limbo as soon as i know my strong head will go on and i'll get on with it
