It sounds as though your grandad may have made a huge scientific breakthrough, OJ. Half a pound of mince and a good slap should cause a dramatic drop in ASDs. I only wish I'd thought of it first.

well you could write the book thou it would include spending time with grandad
my hubby reckons it was cos we had a Matsui video ????? then he explained that its an anagram of autism

Jimjams · 24/01/2005 19:38

"have you ever thought of giving him a good smack?"

sil's dh jan 2004

Re Rain Man - there was an article in one of the Sunday mags about the person who inspired the film, Kim Peek. He doesn't have autism but a congenital brain abnormality instead. He sounds am amazing bloke.

Oh god this stuff is just so awful. It is so awful it is almost surreal.

OJ, pmsl at your comment about granddad

MeerkatsUnite · 24/01/2005 20:52

OJ - I'd hit your grandad with that slab of meat, what a twit (being polite here).

I thought it was a missed opportunity because the programme hardly touched on the very real strains that all parents of autistic children whereever they are on the spectrum face in their day to day lives.

One of the best articles I ever read about autism one entitled "Autism in the blood" written in the Daily Telegraph a couple of years ago. That made me shed some tears on initial reading.

OMG at your Grandad, OJ! And OMG at your sil's DH, Jimjams. My father-in-law has come up with all sorts of stuff from suncream to lack of sugar to us being pushy parents and 'expecting too much'. Oh, and the biggy, me being 'stressed' and dd picking up on it.
