DS6 upsetting neighbours - AuDHD

DS is non verbal and can be very noisy. We try to keep him calm but he regulates by running and vocally stims. We think he enjoys the vibration through himself and in his head when he makes noises.

He has a peanut ball, he has an indoor trampoline and an outdoor one.

He wakes early or in the night and despite the cold I try and keep him in the conservatory (with heaters and warm clothing) so he isn't waking up everyone.

However, next door have expressed how his wife is at the end of her tether with it and getting pissed off. Obviously I'll try keep him even quieter but I just feel so upset by the whole thing. She works with SEND children so I thought they might have had a bit more compassion but I do understand neighbour noise is never welcome.

Does anyone have any other ideas of how I can help quieten down my son?

Can you keep DS in the main house rather than the conservatory? Sometimes conservatories cause noise to travel more/differently.

Has DS had a sensory OT assessment?

And a home OT assessment? Disabled Facilities Grants can fund sound proofing if required.

Does DS take anything to help with sleep? (For DS’s benefit, not for your neighbours' benefit.)

Are you attached? If so, and you rent, do you rent from the council or a housing association? If so, you could try to get back on the list for rehousing to a detached house. Not easy, not quick and not always possible, but worth asking about.

The main house is the issue. We have suspended floors and not solid concrete floors like before. The noise travels through the house when he runs.

Our local council don't do OT assessments any more from memory (we tried to get finger print locks) and as we own the house we aren't entitled to any funding. Short of pulling up our floor and pouring in concrete I don't know what else we can do.

DS is on Adaflex for sleeping which works well but he still sometimes wakes in the night as it only helps him to sleep. Not staying asleep.

Whoever told you this misinformed you! DFGs are available to homeowners and DFGs for children are not means tested on their parents’ income.

There will be a way of accessing home OT assessment with a view to aids, adaptations, equipment, etc.

Has DS been seen by a sleep clinic? There are other medications he could try that help with staying asleep. Some take a second dose of melatonin if they wake early in the night. IIRC, Adaflex is immediate release, you can get prolonged modified release melatonin. Some people take both immediate and prolonged release.
