Just needed advice on the sleep and nighttime care needs. My child gets middle rate but I think she’s entitled to high so have done a coc.
shes high care needs autistic and doesn’t sleep well majority of the time but I couldn’t prove night care needs on original application. I’ve done a sleep diary but once or twice a week she will sleep through in the night, other nights she’s up either all night from midnight or 4/5 times so broken sleep. I have to stay awake when she’s awake. I have more evidence now from professionals too, is it worth going for high rate? Does it have to be 7 nights a week to qualify?

It is the majority of the time. It doesn’t have to be every night.

Our son 8 is very much the same, sometimes he will sleep a few nights although the night other times its late nights and through the night waking.

I think the thing that helped our claim go to HRC is the continuous documentation we had from our paediatrician, she was always mentioning his broken and bad sleep, to the point where he was prescribed melatonin, which would be amazing, if he would actually take it! Which again, has been noted on other letters from her.

Hopefully this helps

@MorningBliss ive got her ehcp draft and education psychologist report but only thing thats mentioned is sleeps is not settled yet would this be enough? And a referral letter to sleep clinic?

It is about the quality of evidence rather than quantity. For some, an EHCP and referral letter to a sleep clinic will be enough, but for others, they won’t be. It depends on how they are written, what information they include, and, to an extent, whose desk it lands on.

Did a COC early this year and my sons award was changed from MRC to HRC LRM last month.

I included amongst his ehcp and other evidence a letter with a sleep plan from an LD nurse which had sleep diaries attached covering 2 weeks and he did happen to sleep through once in those 14 days.
However I think what helped was how specific they were about what was needed when he wakes up i.e supervision and that these issues were definitely related to his ASD rather than anything we as parents did.

She wrote that we d tried every behavioural intervention they could suggest and it hadnt worked so that he was being referred to get melatonin prescribed.

Mine mentioned nothing about sleep and we were still awarded I was shocked as people always say you need loads of evidence.

Do you send the whole of the assessments off or just the bits that are relevant to the claim?

You should send any evidence that supports the claim.

Any reports, letters, etc. you send should be the whole letter/report. You shouldn’t just send part of a letter/report. If there is anything major that needs redacting, e.g. something extremely personal relating to someone else, you can do that, but it shouldn’t be huge chunks or anything like that.
