Dd1 has been having a rough patch at mainstream - coinciding with starting thyroid medication for an underactive ( only by blood test) thyroid.
Tuesday I was feeling a little battle weary - tired and over it all - wanting to just take her out of mainstream and forget it. Actually she was not too bad but I was just tired of it iyswim.
Bumped into her teacher aide who helps her out sometimes on his way to class Tuesday - he said he loved coming down to work with her and he always had a great time. He could not believe how well she was doing and how her speech and interactions had improved out of sight. He thought she was doing well. He said she was his favourite to work with as she has such a great personality (little miss extrovert). He just raved about her. I almost cried and wanted to kiss him and say thank you for making my day.
I had been worried about her IEP Meeting that afternoon and was worrying whether all her hard work at mainstream was going down the toilet so to speak.
The day only got better - they were very positive about how she is coping and doing. We have agreed to transition her to 4 days a week mainstream and one at the sn unit. The best part of that - the aide that spoke to me that morning is going to be spending more time working with dd1's class next term and so she will have someone with her who has sn experience ( he used to work in the special school) and who thinks she is great!
