DD has sensory issues and has been found to have astigmatism in both eyes last month. She needs to wear her glasses all day but takes them on and off all the time and does not want to wear them. i have tried a children book that was recommended and even watched mr magoo cartoon to try and convince her that she needs her glasses.

any ideas

Ok a bit more tricky than i had it with my Ds, he is now 3.4yrs but he started to wear glasses at 1yr and he used to take them off all the time. I used to get him to wear them while watching tv and i would give him 2 biscuits, one in each hand so he didn't have a hand free!

I didn't get stressed when he refused to wear them, i just kept on trying and he eventually would wear them for 10 mins, then 20,30 etc
Try and catch her when she is concentrating on something and put them on her, good luck!

We still struggle (sensory stuff here too - the issue I think is that other kids "get used" to the glasses and ours don't so every day feels like day 1 for them) but we got a degree of tolerance by associating the glasses with favoured (and hand occupying!) activities. Started with food. Then bath times, story times, trying to move on to TV. atm, I have the remote and if the glasses come off, the TV goes off too. It's really basic conditioning but I think when they are so aware of the damn things you do have to get a very conscious association between the glasses and good things.

My DD got glasses last year when she was 3.5 and it took a week of constantly replacing them until she realised that actually she could see better with them on!

She also has sensory issues and it takes her a while to get used to new things anyway. We always have fun and games when she needs new shoes...

she puts them on and says she can see so much better but then finds every excuse in the book to take them off.

tink - DD2s are more comfy with a silicone nose bridge - she takes them off much more with the just the normal nose bits... don't know if it's worth trying?
