What is reasonable to pay for a private SALT?

I've just found a fairly local independent SALT who I may use for dd1.

She charges £70 an hour - just wanted to check if that seems reasonable? I am guessing it probably is, but I'm just worried we may not be able to afford her for long at that rate. But I'm not sure if anyone else would come any cheaper.

She has many years experience, uses hanen and makaton, both I think good for dd1.

We are very lucky in that we pay £50 per hour, and she's not a clock watcher and doesn't charge us travel expenses.

btw HITC - have you seen Davros' post about the Cerebra scheme that gives £500 per year towards private SALT?

We pay £65 for one hour, at her house, central London - takes me half an hour to drive there.

Do you "lose" NHS therapy if they find out you are paying for private therapy?

TotalChaos · 03/06/2008 15:46

No, you don't lose NHS therapy. You have to be in NHS system anyway to sort out help at nursery/school etc and further referrals.

Thanks everyone. Sounds about right then.

Tclanger - yes, thanks I found her through that website.

Totalchaos - yep, saw davros' post - have asked them for an application form already as dd1 fits the criteria. Very good timing!
