To ask if your language delayed possible add/adhd child went on to speak
fluent and conversational?
back story -
my son is 4 in October. He has been able to get needs and wants met verbally by the age of 2 consistently. He is building vocabulary now and can name alot of things, and can use language with verbs and nouns. Eg monkey is jumping. He can use sentences like ‘I want chocolate please mummy’ but sometimes requires prompting to use a sentence rather then just saying ‘chocolate’
we do have back and forth utterances and his understanding is greatly improved and can follow 2 step instructions consistent and had now started 3 step. we have private speech and language involved and was having weekly but is now 2 weekly as she believes he is doing so well. He is on the pathway for an assessment but our SLT doesn’t think he will meet criteria for asd but thinks he does have ADHD - inattentive type which has lead to language delay due to not picking up the language around him.
Generally I am very positive but I have moments where a proper conversation doesn’t feel within reach. Can anyone offer some positive experiences if your son is anything like mine. Socially he is getting better. He’s great with his brother and wants to engage with people around him. He will ask brother ‘Come on let’s play on trampoline’ Etc. I do suspect he may be a gestalt language processor.
thanks

Hi op, following with interest as we are in a similar boat. My son just turned three and he uses sentences occasionally but still mostly single words. Your DS’s speech sounds great, I’m sure you’re very proud of how far he’s come. DH’s nephew, who was diagnosed with ASD, had barely any words at three and now speaks fluently at six. He has a big vocabulary and imagination, which his teacher always praises. It sounds like your son is already doing very well at a young age and I think you have every reason to be hopeful.

@mayflowers9 thanks so much. Was a lovely reply to read. I am so proud of him. I didn’t think we would get to this point but we have. He can now say if he’s sad, and where he has hurt himself which is amazing. We’re not at the point of him telling us he’s poorly but we are progressing all the time. X

@mayflowers9 just out of interested how is hour husbands nephew doing at school? He my son starts next September. He’s a clever little boy, knows his numbers to 20, alphabet, colours and shapes. He’s known all of them bar alphabet for a while now. He’s just learned his alphabet and very quickly.
I just hope school is ok for him. He’s also potty trained day and night too xx

@ag12345 that’s amazing!

DN is doing really well in school and has grown so much since starting. He’s currently in mainstream. He is thriving academically and his teacher adores him. He has a few good friends and has learned a lot about teamwork and socialising from playing football outside of school.

@mayflowers9 gosh it’s so beautiful reading this. I pray for god this is the outcome we have. I love him so much and just want him to be ok through life. X
