How can it take more than 6 weeks!

My DS is going in to Y1 (still in mainstream) and supposed to be back tomorrow.
School have phoned asking if I can keep him home until Thursday. I have really struggled this holiday and the thought of 2 extra days, while it's pouring with rain is enough to make me feel like crying.
The reason is they have a spare classroom which they are changing in to a sensory room. Only small changes from what we were told last term. The sensory room is primarily for DS and another child with additional needs although the other kids can use it too but how can it take over 6 weeks to change it? Surely it would only take a couple of hours?
Why is it once again DS being penalised because of his autism? Why the fuck can't the LA get their shit together and award him a space in a special needs school, which he desperately needs?
It's bad enough he's only doing half days and hasn't progressed at all learning wise (non verbal, in nappies, cognitive, social, emotional development of a child half his age) but now the school can't even have him back at the start of term.
I know it's only 2 days but I'm totally baffled as to how they said before the summer holidays this room would be converted before September and now somehow it's not.
I'm being unfair I know but I am so tired of fighting all the time

The school should not be saying that. If you want DS to attend, he can. Either way, follow up the conversation with an email.

Are you in appeal for SS?

Why is DS only doing half days? Are they unlawful informal exclusions. Is alternative provision in place in DS can’t attend full-time?

He does half days as he can't cope with full days. We did try for a little while before the summer break but after 3 weeks of meltdowns, crying and not sleeping at night we went back to half days. Hopefully we will manage to build it up successfully this year..
We are awaiting a pannel decision about SS. There's a meeting on Friday so depends on what they decide. If they say no we'll have to appeal.
Very stressful morning but I'm not sure if that's just because in my mind he'd be back at school

If DS can’t do full time, have you requested alternative provision, so he still receives a suitable full-time education and anything detailed, specified and quantified in F? The LA is ultimately responsible for ensuring provision in EHCPs is provided and compulsory school aged pupils receive a suitable full-time education.

Make sure the LA sticks to the review timescales.

How did the meeting go @Confusdworriedmum?

Confusdworriedmum · 08/09/2025 08:12

We've not heard anything from the meeting so I'm going to have to call today. Although I sent his case worker an email and it wouldn't send so am going to have to try and find a phone number. My assumption is he didn't get a place or we would have heard but obviously I need to know so I can appeal.

Sounds so difficult but yes, do find out and appeal if necessary. Are you going to get any help with the appeal?
