Just enquiring if anyone knows if it is possible to get reductions in entrance fees to wildlife parks etc if my DS recieves DLA?

He gets middle rate DLA and I recieved carers allowance for him.

We have a holiday booked in the UK in August, first one for a while and money is a bit tight and thought I had read somewhere on here that it may be possible to get a reduction on entrance fees.

Wildlife parks and such like are so expensive and any advice would be appreciated.

Some venues give discount, theme parks etc can give exit passes so you don't have to queue. It's worth doing a bit of research before you go on holiday so you can find out where you can save money and plan your days out accordingly.

You might also want to look into family membership of National Trust, which is currently aroudn £80 a year for unlimited free admission to all properties around the country.

Thanks KarenThirl-will do my resarch and see what I can find out.

The national trust sounds like a good idea.

Find out what's available locally too. This is available in the North East:
www.mlanortheast.org.uk/documents/NEMLAC-MaxCardLeaflet.pdf
It gives free entry and discounts on loads of visitor attractions across the region. There might be something similar where you live (I'm pretty sure there's something in Yorkshire, for example). The Max scheme was originally for Looked After Children but was extended last year to cover children with disabilities and their families. Maybe Social Services would know what's available, and you might be able to apply as a visitor to another region. Worth asking?

We are registered with local council who issue the yellow 'registered disabled' cards which most places accept as proof of disability - that way you don't get involved in discussions and carting DLA forms around if you don't have a wc user...

We have the icount card around here, from the council I think. They publish a list of who will give a discount. You usually look for "concessions" on price lists, some give dicounts to the person, others will let carers in free.

disCounts even!

Thanks everyone for the information ,really helpful.

I did e mail the Sandringham Estate and got a friendly e mail back saying they do offer discounts but don't normally presume as they don't want to offend.

They said ask
for this concession and they admit children with a disability /special need for free and their carer for £5.

They don't ask for documentation ethier.

Thought I would post this as it may be useful to anyone who may be thinking of visiting Sandringham.

I always ask at the payment kiosk if they do disability concessions. In quite a few places I have paid a reduced rate for DD2 and got in free as her carer, or paid nothing for her.

DD2 is registered disabled with the County Council register but they don't issue a card of any sort, so I tend to take a copy of her DLA award letter.

Have a lovely holiday!
