Hello.

im new here but was advised to make a new thread. My daughter has shown signs of adhd/autism since birth but have always just not made a fuss and have been laid back with a kind of what will be will be attitude.

she’s always struggled at school academically but she’s very easy going and never complained so I’ve let the teachers come to me with an approach as I’m all new to everything I’m not sure what to ask for. She’s been on a IEP for 2 years which has helped a lot. Recently the senco has approached me and said she would like to refer her for an assessment to get further help which I’ve agreed to. So we have filled out a questionnaire detailing her needs from my view and the teachers view with a brief description of her needs also at the bottom. This was the questionnaire forwarded to Cahms.

the list is so long for cahms so my first question is can I speed this up and also how long did you all wait ?

next is I have put in for DLA but she doesn’t obviously have any diagnosis as the wait is going to be a long one. I have filled out the form as honestly as possible and included a copy of the cahms letter and also a copy of the questionnaire I did with the SENCO detailing her needs. Also sent a copy of the latest IEP. Will this be enough evidence as I didn’t fill out the someone who knows her section as the questionnaire was like a mini report from her teacher anyway.

sorry for long post just have no one to advise me and never been in this situation before. TIA X

DLA is based on needs, not diagnosis. It is about quality of evidence rather than quantity. Impossible for anyone here to say if it will be enough or not.

You could look at right to choose rather than CAMHS. For some providers, that would be quicker.
