I am a bit scared of saying the wrong thing on this board so please forgive me if i type a bit PC.

I am beginning to wonder if DS2s behaviour is less to do with my shitty parenting and more to do with a possible 'problem'. I have done a little googling and i think he could be somewhere on the autistic spectrum but the things that niggle me aren;t the classic autism signs like lack of eye contact, its more things like he cannot sit still always fidgetting, he will have a complete meltdown if we go a different way to school without me telling him, and he just will NOT respond to his name. I can shout his name over and over again but he doesn;t respond.
there are lots of little things that, all together, are niggling at me now.

Please dn;t think i am wanting a label for him. yes in some ways it would be nice to have something to 'blame' but if its my shit parenting then i want to change it! Also, if he does need help i want to at least try and get the ball rolling before he starts school. He is 3 so will go to preschool nursery in september.

Sorry to hear you've had a tough day, rainy days are the worst when you've got young children...it's a good first to see your GP, hope it goes well.

MannyMoeAndJack · 26/05/2008 20:43

first step, that is!

I am not sure whether i would really need GP or HV but HV is over crowded during half term. I have PND as well which isn't helping!

no you wont be over reacting

i just took my ds and said i was worried and gp referred me to child physician who asked me all symptoms etc and said she would refer him to multi disciplinary team

and they asked if i had any ideas had i done research i said i dont want to diagnose my own child but autism has sprung to mind but i was hoping just language delays

by the end of that meeting i was given a diagnosis

he was observed from 2-3 from speech therapist incase just normal delays when he got to 3 then assessments were done and diagnosis given took 3 months for multi disciplinary assessment from when refferred so was so quick considering your living in limbo for along time

doctors would prefer you to be a neurotic caring mother than ignoring the signs as early intervention is prefferred for them good luck

it is hard but i found coming on here has been a huge help to talk to people that understand me i never thought he would be diagnosed but now im seeing it positively but still have days where i worry but now he will get help for his language problems he'll learn how to communicate properly so it can only be good from here for him

and now i understand him so much more we are so much closer i dont get so frustrated with him i find other ways to help him and all has been so much better for him as well as me

am quite this morning. Rung DR (i have a stupid phobia about phoning people so it took a lot for me to do that!) and there are no appointments for today, told her why i wanted it and why today is a good day (no ds1) she said i should see HV but they are fully booked up for weeks (??)
then she wouldn't let me make an ordinary appointment!!

AM ringing back after lunch, they swap receptionists then!

Any luck?

BlueDragonfly · 27/05/2008 19:54

no

i couldn't get thru on the phone so i went past on my way elsewhere and it wass bloody closed! When ds3 has next imms i am going to take ds2 as well and speak to HV directly. she will have to give me 1to1 as they won't talk about things like that in a room full of people
