I have a social worker from the children disabilities team visiting my house tomorrow to start an assessment what can I expect.

I only requested the assessment last week received a call today to ask when I am free and the social worker said great she was in the area and could pop over tomorrow

It can help to make some notes beforehand. Things like needs/difficulties (day and night, in and out of the home), support already receiving, family life, history, what you would like from the assessment, any questions you have... They may want to look round the house -don’t panic, it is not a judgement on your parenting.

You might find some of the information in here helpful.

This is probably too late to be of any use, but I think you need to be honest about your struggles and what help you feel you need. If your child puts themself in danger a lot then you need to talk about that impact. Also highlight impact on siblings, work, community/neighbours, not just how your child is affected.

Our disability social worker has been great. It has meant we have a small amount of respite and have had an OT assessment in the home which can help with housing or any adaptions you need to keep your child safe. We also found out about support groups and charities too, which were great and we got referred to CAMHS and have accessed some courses through them. The social worker was by far the most competent and understanding professional we have come across. What issues are you needing help with?
