Sorry the lEA let you down again - I suppose you would have been shocked had they not!! But it sounds like you have a lot of amnunition to request funding for this school. Hope you keep a clear head for your letter writting. ( and do eat you can't afford to run flat you know ) Have my fingers crossed for you.

bonkerz · 23/05/2008 19:33

I really do HATE doing the paperwork for this appeal!
i have finished compiling it finally and have got 6 pages of typed info and 11 peices of evidence to back up what i have said in the statement. Problem i have now is i realise it would be good to have a rep from the priory school come to appeal with me to answer any questions about meeting DS needs etc and to confirm they can accept DS. I cant get in touch with the school to ask if this is OK as its half term and feel a bit weird putting them on the attendance from as witness if i havent asked them yet. I have placed a little note on the form saying i am going to ask them along in order to provide eveidence about meeting statement and other questions about the school and will let them know ASAP if they can come BUT i am not sure if this is allowed!

If they cant come i intend to ask them to write a report stating exaclty how they will meet DSs needs and will submit that as late evidence i suppose, i hope that will work but i have to post it first thing tomorrow as deadline is friday!

Also had a call from IPSEA today. i emailed over the case statement and she checked and said it was very good. She is also compiling a letter tp the legal department at the council threatenening to take them to Judicial review for not meeting DSs statement for the past 6 months! She did point out that chances of going that far are slim and normally it just serves to point out to them that we mean buisness and the legal team will then add pressure to SENA to sort out DSs case.

Best wishes for your appeal next week, - I hope it all goes well for you and ds future. Well done for knuckling down (I hate it too!) Goodness knows what happens to kids without tenacious literate parents!

Bonkerz, you are where i was a year ago with DS.
taught by the pupil referral service (at home his consultant refused to let him go to the unit saying they,d tear him to bits), for 2 years he was out.

he is now in the local PRIORY school

and loves it.
it is a brilliant school, he has come on so much, if you want to CAT me i can tell you how i got him in there, i went over the LEA,s heads and wrote to the president of sendist, its a long story but suffice the say he got in and the LEA were fuming.
i couldnt have done it without IPSEA, glad you have them on board.
you are doing brill. but i know how hard emotionally/mentally/physically this all can be (going through the same crap again this time round with dd) so make sure you look after yourself.
if theres anything i can help you with please ask.

oh just reread your last message, get onto sendist and tell them of your predicament, they can send a letter for you to give the head of priory asking do they think DS meets the admission criteria needed for their school.
thats what we did, i also sent him a copy of ds statement and he was very kind to write me a letter saying how much he thought ds would fit into his school, we forwarded that to sendist and the LEA and the SEN manager went ballistic!!!!!!

bonkerz · 28/05/2008 19:42

i had to apply for an amendment to the appeal today becasue i am now naming the priory school. SENDIST are going to send me a letter to get priory to sign saying DS will be accepted by them and have also got an appointment with priory at end of June to go through statement so they can write a report detailing exactly what support DS will get in order to meet his statement and exactly what type of help DS will get with his diagnosed issues. priory have also agreed to come to the appeal. I have also had to put down the head of the MS to come along as our witness to back up her written reports.
The case is so well stacked on our side im feeling more confident but JENK any help you could give me would be much appreciated!

well i cant wait for holidays to be over. Ive tried really hard this week to actually take DS out and have managed to have another adult with me every day. Today i encountered such ignorance i know why i dont go out with DS alone, thankfully my friend was wonderful and had choice words to say to a certain ignorant man who moaned that DS had hit his son. I ofcourse sat DS down and restrained him whilst he lashed out and screamed, when he was calm we had a chat (nearly 25 mins of kicking!) This was in a soft play area and in full view of everyone. Supid man thought my DS was spoilt and a bully, friend put him straight and said that DS had suspected autism and asked what was his DSs excuse for calling my DS idiot/stupid and gay! Man looked well and truely belittled and left!

made some calls again today. the MS school that SENA sent me to look at have had no contact from SENA at all which surprised the head, he has agreed to write a strongly worded letter regarding the inappropriateness of his MS for DS and also stating how he feels LEA have misled us and him, he also has said that he believes the LEA will back down once they see the evidence i have (showed him it all when we met!).
Head of old MS has agreed to come and is a little worried how SENA will react as she said she will not support them with the evidence she has!

OP posts:
bonkerz · 03/06/2008 15:57

classic example of how DS is not getting the support he needs and of how the people in charge of him are not trained!

Ds did cooking today and has come home with a burn blister about 2cm in length on his finger. His teacher from the PRU did ring me and said that the staff member who was in the kitchen with him was 'joking' about how if he didnt believe her that the oven was hot that he should touch it! Obviouslt my DS DID touch it and is now walking around with this burn which is getting bigger but is not big enough to go to A&E. FFS even the psych report said DS is a literal thinker and vulnerable. Im cross but also part of me thinks it couldnt ahve been helped!
Will definately add this to the list of reasons why PRU is NOT suitable for DS at all!

OP posts:
TotalChaos · 03/06/2008 15:58

oh no your poor boy bonkerz. sounds like PRU are bloody clueless about how to speak to kids on the ASD spectrum.

bonkerz · 03/06/2008 16:04

It just seems so unproffessional to say something like that to my DS. The worst thing is that when the teacher rang she made out like it was a tiny burn mark and that Ds was the one who had done something wrong, she told me about the TA 'joking' and laughed it off, i did too TBH BUT when DS got home its an actual blister which is red and swollen and quite long on his finger and the more i think about the 'joke' the more angry i get!

OP posts:
bonkerz · 03/06/2008 17:27

think ive just been fobbed of too by the SENCO for the PRU. Have been trying to contact her for 3 weeks and she rang me tonight. I have asked her how DSs statement is being met at PRU and if any of the TAs are trained in ASD/ODD and she says they all have minimal trining with autism outreach. When i asked her about statement she said she was sure his needs were being met but didnt know how and will find out.

SO if DS statement says 32.5 hours of support with enhanced funding then SURELY the PRYu should be getting extra money off LEA to pay for this specialist support...shouldnt they?

OP posts:
bonkerz · 04/06/2008 17:47

Looks like LEA have got my letter about failure to provide DSs statement! Had PRU on phone and they are being made scape goat for the whole mess, apparently the teacher had a call from powers that be at SENA and has been told its all PRU fault and IM the one blaming them! HAd to point out to PRU teacher that my issues are with SENA and LEA primarily. So do oyu think ive got them running scared!? Obviously if the LEA havent been giving funding to the PRU (which they havent) even though the statement says the LEA will fund the 32.5 hours then it means the PRU can now claim ALOT of extra money as teacher at PRU says they have had a number of pupils attend with the enhanced fundiong in the past and have never been told thye can claim that funding!!!!!!
Maybe i have opened a whole can of worms that the LEA wanted to keep closed!!!!

Also had the letter from proposed MS detailing issues with reagrds DS attending and it is VERY good.

PRU have also agreed to support our battle for the priory school and are going to tell SENA that DS should be moved to a similar setting, PRU are also going to start getting advice from the priory school so at the meeting in September she can say she the priory school have been very helpful and know DS IYKWIM!!!!

Sorry if im boring oyu all. It helps me to write it down though so i can see how its all coming together and can stay positive!

Going to see the other special school tomorrow and have another meeting at Priory school Friday so it is all go here.

HAve also tried to chase up CAMHS today but no response as yet!

Def. sounds like it's all coming together - keep going!

magso · 05/06/2008 09:40

Hope the visit today is helpful - ie is either potentially suitable (good 1st or 2nd choice)or so obviously wrong there is no contest!
Lots happening at present and to get the pru supporting you is excellent.
Keep battling on!

bonkerz · 05/06/2008 15:24

Well the school i visited today is lovely, it is set out like a mainstream and the class sizes are between 8-12 which would be perfect for DS. £ main obvious issues with this school though...
1: Distnace would mean DS travelling up to 40 mins in morning and again in afternoon so almost an hour and a hlaf travelling and that if roads are clear!
2: DSs aggression would pose a huge health and safety risk and will definately unsettle and disrupt the other children
3: the school is open grounds so not secure for DS at all.

The head of this school actually asked if id looked at the local priory!!! I would actually consider it as a second choice but think the 3 points above are actually very viable reasons to choose the priory over this school!

Had some info back from SENA today too via parent partnership, apparently they havent put in to take case back to panel so it may not go back now till 30th June and APPARENTLY they are still looking for a MS school despite all the evidence!!! Im so annoyed with them right now!!! Got a letter from the county solicitor though so i know pressure is on them from all angles now.

OP posts:
magso · 05/06/2008 21:05

Well glad you have a potential 2nd choice.
