my little boy is 4 and a half. Both myself and my husband are concerned with some of his behaviours.
we have met with the health visiting team and them have completed the development assessments. After these, they have said to monitor him as they likely wouldn’t assess until he is 6.
he is such a loving child but has so much energy, he is on the go non stop and he struggles so sit still, even when watching TV.
he gets very transfixed on certain things and it’s hard to get him off them. An example is we went to a park where there was an ice cream van, he was
demanding an ice cream. We told him he couldn’t have one as we were going out for lunch, he was kicking and screaming and refusing to play at the park so we had to leave.

he is also over friendly with other children and adults. We went out for food earlier and they had a play area, he was playing with another girl then was asking for her to come to his house. This happens often when we are out.
if our neighbours are in their garden, he is constantly standing by the fence talking to
them and asking to go in their house.

he also doesn’t have a great awareness of safety and will run off if we are out.

I have spoken to his childminder and his pre school who have no concerns but I wonder if he masks when he is there?

any advice would be greatly appreciated

If child minder and pre school don't have concerns and health visitors say watch and wait I think you probably should keep it on the radar.
What you're saying doesn't really scream anything out on the face of it.
Once your little one goes to reception there will be a proper teacher and things are more likely to come to a head.
Yourselves you can still get all the books and parent your child as if they are neuro diverse even if they turn out not to be.

Write a list of your concerns and go to the GP. If he goes to nursery and they have concerns takes those too. Ask for a referal to be assessed by a paedetritian. In our area you would be seen within 6 months by paeds but if you wait until he is 6 the referal goes to CAHMS and you have a 4 year wait.

I agree with this. Write that list and see your GP. The waiting lists for assessment are long and there is little point in waiting obe abs a half years before even joining the list.

I would also do this simple progress checker. Let us know if it says tgat he needs some support.
