Support thread - transition to secondary

Anyone else with a ND child transitioning to secondary this year? My son has ASD, dyspraxia, sensory processing difficulties and has alot of physical and vocal stims. We are fighting for an EHCP and will be remaining in mainstream. I think we have chosen a good school for him and he has quite alot of transition support coming up but I have SO much anxiety about the move (am not letting him know that though).

Please come join me if you fancy some mutual moral support!

I have a child starting middle school. Her world seems to be imploding with her autism diagnosis and now EBSA with possible burn out. I’m very worried about transition.

@HorrorFan81 how are you and your son feeling about transition?

Hi @Notlookingforwardtosummer thanks for joining me. ESBA sounds so tough I'm sorry you're going through that. Are school supportive?

Im really worried about it but he seems to be taking it in stride. His formal transition days start soon so hopefully they will go well

Thanks for replying.

EBSA is tough. The hardest part is I don’t know if she is struggling or in burn out and I have no idea what is the right thing to do. The good news about her mask coming off is school is starting to understand there is an issue. Her class teachers are helpful, one knows very little about autism in girls but is reading lots and the other is very experienced. The SENCO is defensive and full of the praises of school and didn’t believe there were any signs of ASD when she was her class teacher.

It’s half term next week but after that she will do a half day once a week at the new school. I really wish we had started transition sooner but that point she was doing OK or seemed to be doing OK in school.

Sorry i hadn't seen that you had replied. How are you getting on?

My son has a SEND transition day today at his new secondary. Feeling pretty emotional but he was fine at drop off and had some good chats with other parents and the SENCO which helped
