DD1 is 6. She has had a Dx of ASD for 2 years now.
She is in mainstream school (not that I am particularly thrilled about this, they don;t meet her needs but thats another thread...) and they are struggling with her behaviour etc. She is still wetting and soiling on a regular basis too despite appts with paediatricians.
I have had a running battle for 2 years about getting her the help she needs. I have had meeting after meeting with Autism teams, and behavioural specialists and educational psychologists, the list goes on and on and on.....
Today I saw an EdPsych. She visited me at home.
She tells me that she is going to ensure Dd1 has a Statement and wants her to have a place in a specialist unit for Autistic Spectrum Disorder children.

Thank God for that! Its only took 2 YEARS

good news about the placement - not good about the time. I can share though - I went to a meeting well it would be about 5 years ago - you know one of those government consulting the people shite meetings and there was a family there that had been fighting LEA and all sorts for 7 years!

SpookyMadMummy · 20/05/2008 07:29

7 years!!!!

At least the EP has finally agreed with you.

Did you know however, that you can apply for the Statement yourself?.

The EP's words can carry some weight and this report will be taken in to account by the LEA but you are the best person to apply for the statement. You need to make the initial application, would not solely rely to do this on the EP as their caseload is often huge, besides which if you apply you know its been done then.

IPSEA are good at the whole minefield that is the statementing process and there are letters on there you can use re applying:-

Oh yes, Atilla, I am making waves about it myself. The school have always been unwilling to even begin the process so I have spent time making calls and looking up the relevant information. Thank you

It took us nearly 4 years to get a statement and transfer to special school, but 7 years! Good luck Spooky!
