Here are some suggested organisations that offer expert advice on special needs.

Special need reborn doll

I dont like these dolls anyway, i find them spooky but to say that it has SNs because its damaged !! is just so wrong in my eyes .

I emailed her and asked her to revise the SN wording...

she replied: "i am sorry you feel this way but my listing is staying as is i have done this as other people have done the same wording so therefore i am only using the same wording so people know."

Ahh well then, it must be ok if 'someone else' has done it...

eidsvold · 19/05/2008 12:31

can you not write some negative feedback with regards to this ?? I am very ignorant in the ways of ebay.

coppertop · 19/05/2008 12:31

Having looked at the listing again I can't decide which is more lacking in taste - saying the doll has SN, or that bloody awful pink rug thing that the doll is lying on in the photos.

twocutedarlings · 19/05/2008 12:39

you would have to but it to leave negative feedback eidsvold.

I remember ages ago there was a MN thread about a TV programme about women who collect the reborn dolls. Someone did a link to a forum that the women use to talk about their scary dolls purchases. Is it worth looking for it again and asking them to think before doing this kind of thing?

Mind you, last time it ended in a big ruck IIRC.

coppertop · 19/05/2008 12:44

You were obviously thinking of "butt ugly" when typing.

anniebear · 19/05/2008 12:56

her reply to me was

yes it is because of the small damage,i can't see how it would offend anyone,as i ahve seen a few same the same thing and because of this i have done the same so people realise what it means.

pooka · 19/05/2008 13:17

She seems to be attempting to turn the fact that she broke the doll into a unique selling position. You can just imagine her thinking "damn, I've fucked up the hand. I know! I'll market it as a "special needs doll" and be quids in".

Which is really grim. (but then so are all these fecking revolting dolls, though that's no excuse)

twocutedarlings · 19/05/2008 13:33

Ive just google special needs reborn dolls - and other than her listing its found nothing really - so it appears she is taking out of her arse.

Found that doll forum CT here, can you believe you have to pay to join it!! i did a search on there and it doesnt appear (thank god) that SN is a term used in this freaky industry.

I agree Pooka, she has just put it in the tital to attract people .

I suppose they think that if people are stupid enough able to pay £1000 for an ugly doll they'll cough up the money to post on a forum.

I had a quick look through and have to admit that I did PMSL at this e-bay listing. Handbags at dawn over there.

twocutedarlings · 19/05/2008 13:51

PMSL coppertop

Shes changed the listing to special care baby .

OP posts:
coppertop · 19/05/2008 13:56

She's left it as special needs on the annoying moving ad further down the page.

I'll bet she's complaining somewhere about how "I'd have gotten away with it if it hadn't been for those meddlin' women!"

twocutedarlings · 19/05/2008 14:03

Id just emailed her a ranty type message says how unethical it was ect ect, then look again a few seconds later and she had changed it

KarenThirl · 19/05/2008 14:26

Oh God I've just looked at the doll forum and it's made the hairs stand up on the back of my neck. They're actually posting their baby pictures, for God's sake, like they're their real family and everything. And they call each other Auntie!! I'm seriously worried for these women.

loveverona · 19/05/2008 14:42

God that's vile! Never seen these before and I feel a bit sick..... they look stuffed! Grim.

bullet123 · 19/05/2008 14:55

Right. Right. Little cut on hand = special needs.
Good to get that established then {hmm}.
Yes, I AM being sarcastic.

TotalChaos · 19/05/2008 15:44

as well as being on planet twee weirdo, these people do have a bizarre use of language - have you seen her definition of "special care"!!!

2shoes · 19/05/2008 17:29

sorry had to lol
this thread made me feel bad as dd's beloved doll has sn. her hand is missing all her fingers and her eyes are glued in. but then I think that is why dd loves it so much.

coppertop · 19/05/2008 17:55

I can see the headlines now:

"E-Bay Woman Finds Solution To SN: Wear Mittens!"

Villette · 19/05/2008 18:13

The ironic thing is that my son does have special needs and he can't wear mittens - at least not on his hand affected by the hemiplegia. I simply can't get his hand into a glove.

I just feel a bit sorry for this woman.

theheadgirl · 19/05/2008 19:36

Does anybody remember a few years back when FHM or Nuts magazine pretended to sell dolls with Down Syndrome with proceeds going to the DSA? I think it was just after DD3 had been born, and I remember thinking should I be outraged or amused. Cos my newborn girl with DS was very cute, and did look a little like a cabbage patch doll! The DSA complained and got an apology.
I now realise I am just resigned to the dickheadishness that is FHMworld. And I am outraged that they think its OK to joke about it......

eidsvold · 20/05/2008 22:25

xheadgirl - you can buys doll with down syndrome

here

2shoes · 21/05/2008 08:56

dd's freind had an ordinanry doll.
but she adapted it made it look like people from her world. (feeding tuce etc)
dd' doll has a hole made in it so that it can be tube fed. I wish there were dolls made like that.(not at added cost iynwim)

theheadgirl · 21/05/2008 12:13

Yes, eidsvold, I'd seen the "proper" dolls with DS, and if your child has the self awareness to realise they look different I can see how they might like a doll that shares their characteristics.
FHM weren't running the story for altruistic reasons though, but as a "joke"
