Hi there,

Son is 8 years old with ASD, PICA, Learning Disability among some other diagnoses.

We currently live in a 2 bedroom first floor flat provided by a housing association with 2 Parents and 3 children.

17 year old daughter with recent diagnosis of ASD.

12 year old daughter with ASD diagnosis 2022

8 Year on son.

Based on housing requirements we are entitled to a 4 bed property, however there just seems to be no movement in social housing for this. We now have an OT coming over to the property on Monday to have a look around and meet the family before offering some potential adaptations.

My question is what kind of adaptations would they offer? Most of the problems in the home stem from the lack of outdoor space and indoor space... Each of the 3 children need space to regulate with the youngest requiring a lot more care and attention, we've been recommended things like trampolines, soft play equipment/area but we just dont have the ability to do this.

Has anyone had any experience with this?

We are based in Slough if this helps.

Thanks!

They may be able to split a room.

Also things like locks on doors/windows/taps/cupboards and perspex screens over windows.

It you don’t have space for things like a trampoline and soft play equipment, what about something like a southpaw kit or gorilla gym that attaches to a doorway?

We actually just had this same home appointment on Wednesday. The OT has recommended rehousing, and will be bringing us up to the housing association rehousing meeting next week. They also said house adaptions that we would need would be: 3 bedrooms, away from a main road, garden, fully padded walls in youngest sons bedroom, window locks, different door locks and a safety chain.

We currently live in a 2 bed terraced house and I have two autistic children - one with adhd as well. They both receive HRC DLA due to significant night time needs and cannot share a room

Hearing that there is someone out there than can bat for us with regards to rehousing is certainly good to hear!

Unfortunately it wasn't OT but they called themselves a step down and we have to go through them, the lady we met with was lovely and is well known in the area for supporting families.

She has called to say she has an update from OT and is coming Thursday to discuss with us.

We currently live in a 2 bedroom first floor flat with no balcony or private outdoor area. We have 3 children all with ASD ranging from 17 - 8 years old.

Everyone we have spoken too including social services have told us there is nothing they can do.

This is our last hope really.
