Any ideas to get DS to keep his nappy on.

I really hope someone can help me. DS is 4 and isn't potty trained. Every night for the last few weeks he gets out of his sleep suit and nappy. He usually wees somewhere in the room and poos (usually in his nappy but then takes the nappy off so poo is smeared over his bed). His mattress is ruined even with a mattress protector on..
I thought maybe it's time to potty train. I tried all over Easter holidays and he just didn't understand what he was supposed to do. He's non verbal too so that's another hurdle.
I'm at my wit's end. We've got sleep suits with a zip on the back which we also pin. We've also put pins on the arms but he still gets out of it.
I don't care about that it's the fact he takes his nappy off and poos and wees that's the problem.
Can anyone come up with an idea to keep him in his nappy at night? I'm getting desperate. I should add his autism is pretty severe.

Hi I'm so sorry no one has messaged you back yet. I'm in same situation with my almost 7 year old. Don't have any advice, it's so similar to what's happening to me! Although my boy does let us change him he just had complete incontinence and very loose bowel movements due to laxido which he needs to stay on otherwise he gets impaction.

It's so hard isn't it? I've cried a lot. I can't help worrying I'm still going to be cleaning his bum at 20.

Sending hugs and solidarity x

Just a thought since it's night time; have you tried the fabric almost pant like nappies? It might be the feeling of the normal ones he doesn't like. My boy has pull ups and when he's feeling annoyed he'll rip them and spread poo everywhere. I phoned eric.org website for advice and they suggested I get the fabric incontinent pants as better sensory texture. Haven't properly used them yet, but may help your son? Might feel better against the skin at night?

Our son has had smearing phases in the day but not at night yet. He still sleeps in a sleeping bag (we buy the big ones from Slumbersac) which maybe helps. He has never been an escape artist so haven’t had the issue of sleeping bag/pj removal but you could put them on him backwards so he would struggle to unzip? That way he would need to escape out of 2 things and might give you a bit more time to get to him before he does it?
weirdly to stop the smearing we started changing poopy nappies stood up and putting the poop in the toilet and it stopped it mostly, I think it made him half understand poop isn’t meant to be touched. My little boy is almost 5 if that helps. Solidarity, poop related things are one of the few things that really set off anxious feelings for me!

Are the sleepsuits standard ones or special needs ones with reinforced necks to make them harder to wiggle out of? Somewhere online there's a lady who has reviewed different special needs ones based on how hard her sons found them to get out of. I can't think of the name, but google might find it.
