This may seem a very silly question, but what do you put under them.In winter dd has tights, then her splints, then trousers.I never put dresses on her as she crawls.
I have noticed she gets sweaty in the heat but think putting tights under them in summer would be cruel and boil her.Any good tips suggestions.Since she has been bareleggeed ubder them she has also got a little bruise just at the top on both sides.

We always put them over knee high socks in summer.

In the bath at the end of the day in the summer dd1 has brown thighs and arms and face etc, and pale calves where she has had the splints and socks..... We would leave them off, but she 'walks' so much better with them on. Without the socks they chafe her skin really badly. The wrist splint is fabric and fine on it's own.

My dd alwys wears long socks, whatever the weather as she crawls a lot when not in her wheelchair and they tend to rub her and mark her skin.

yes long socks

you can get white ones for school and then funky ones from gap for weekends

tbh I think sock thickness is a bit of a red herring - it is being encased in plastic that makes your legs hot

You can also get orthotics to cut holes in the splints supposedly for ventilation but in practice to let the sweat drip out.

I've been using lovely little cotton long socks from mothercare - they do them in little sizes too which is good. However, noticed dd2 has a bit of athletes foot tonight so I guess she is still getting a bit sweaty with splint, socks and trainers. There was a discussion on hemihelp about this same thing and someone kind of invented a splint liner so they could be worn with sandals - link here: www.board.hemihelp.org.uk/index.php?showtopic=1622&hl=

I have often seen primark reccomended for knee-length 100% cotton socks to wear under afos.

the only primark long socks I found where really nylonny and sticky and a funny shape too. It's really important to get socks that fit well as if they bunch up somewhere they can rub. The primark ones were cheap but I haven't used them but the mothercare ones are lovely - also not 'holey' as the 'holey' school socks can leave marks too. And mothercare do tiny ones (size 3-5.5) which is the only place I've seen them in that size. but someones did recommend to stock up in winter as they stop selling them in summer sometimes.
