What's going right?

For our SEN kids? And our SEN parents?

My dd5.5 with autism just took herself to the toilet today! That's following weeks and weeks of toilet training.

The past few days I'd been taking her and sitting her on the toilet whenever she needed to go with zero accidents.

But today she just went and sat on the loo and did a wee wee!

I could cry. I'm so proud of her.

Whats going right for you all? I started a thread about her going on the toilet herself before for poops but now we're fully there!

❤️

This is a lovely thread idea! My son had his tonsils out today and it involved over 8 hours in hospital. He is 4.5 and non verbal and normally any waiting of more than 30 mins involves epic meltdowns but he was so patient today and so brave after.
Well done to your little one, toilet training is a huge win!

This is a lovely post and I agree that it’s so hard to get lost in all of the negative stuff. Lovely to hear your good news ladies.
I guess mine is that my autistic son actually properly hugged me yesterday. He usually refuses contact or stiffen up if anyone touches him, and so this was something I will treasure always.

Oh wow, well done to him for coping, hospitals are scary at the best of times. Does he get to have ice cream now?

Thank you 🥰 I was looking at her today she's growing up! 🥺

The money I'm gonna save on bloody baby wipes! 😭 xx

Same, it's a tough road. She's actually awake now watching the superbowl with me 😅 zero signs of sleep tonight

That's amazing! You'll never forget it! How old is he? I'm so pleased for you, a small hug can really wash away so much of the stress we feel! xx

@CL2208 that is really lovely! Got to treasure those big hugs.

@mumofoneAlonebutokay we are going to get some Oatly ice cream today and see if he will try it. He has been eating a lot which we are surprised about (but pleased as it promotes healing) but the biggest news is he slept 12 straight hours last night!

Haha yes the money we spend on nappies and wipes, I may have to get some potty training tips off you.

Oh girl I've got no tips 😭 i think she's just decided it's time

It's her world and I just live in it and provide the snacks 🤭

I'd say not to bother with the potty though, as she hated that and got used to the toilet after a while

That's amazing that he's been eating 🙂. Must've been scary him having surgery but it seems to have gone well

And congratulations on 12 hours sleep! That's huge news 😄, do you feel like a new woman from the rest?

@mumofoneAlonebutokay ahaha I love that, it's her world!
Ahhh yes my son has sat on the toilet a few times and has done a wee and we are doing nappy off time each day. We are kind of hoping he just decides one day too, that seems to be the most effective way of teaching him things...just giving the general gist and he eventually does it when he sees the benefit Grin
