Hi,
My DS is almost 3.
He is on the waiting list for SALT and currently under a developmental paediatrician too.
We are also undertaking a local speech programme.

He only says a handful of words but has good understanding.
His physical movements are delayed, he did not walk until 2 but he can now walk/run. But struggles with steps/stairs, cannot jump etc.

He has started a nursery who have helped us with the referrals but it is a minefield on what we should be doing.

It's been suggested that we apply for DLA as he may be eligible. I was just wondering if anybody is a similar situation has any advice whether I should look into DLA?

Thanks in advance

Yes, apply for DLA. Call for the form. Cerebra has a guide on their website that is helpful for completing the form.

Also, if DS doesn’t already have an EHCP and an EHCNA hasn’t been requested, request an EHCNA. On their website, IPSEA has a model letter you can use.

Thank you. I will have a look into all of this!

Hi, my little boy had a brain I just at birth and he's now 3 and was diagnosed with cerebral palsy last year. He also only says a couple of words although he is very vocal with his noises! Definitely apply for DLA and remember when you fill it out to think of your son's worst days. If you get it, your nursery can apply for extra funding to use for things that might be helpful for him. We see physio and OT monthly and our NHS SALT every 3 months or so. We supplement this with private SALT monthly, which if you can afford it, is worth doing to get the ball rolling!

Thank you.
The speech programme he's doing now is great and we've seen more sounds from him but that ends soon and I have no idea when we'd see SALT via the nhs so I think I will definitely look into private.
I've asked for the DLA form to be posted to me so I'm just waiting on that to arrive.
