What therapy for ASD should I go for?

I have a 5 year old who is severely affected by Autism. She doesn’t really speak to communicate, appears to have poor understanding, still in nappies etc. An EHCP is in place and she gets SALT and OT through that. Im looking to get her some therapy privately. Does anyone have any thoughts on what might be a good choice?

I’ve been looking at ABA. I know it’s controversial, but I’m so wanting to see a lot of progress. Or should I go for more SALT? Maybe more OT, one who specialises in sensory integration? I’m not sure what to do for the best but I feel that I need to do something. I’m keen to hear opinions and experiences. Thanks.

I’m not going to lie it was extremely hard work at the time but I’d always rather do more now for a lazy life later. At the time I did really wonder if he’d manage. There are obviously children who will never toilet train and it really was fairly hard to guess where we were going to end up.

Sorry to jump on this thread! Very interested to hear about the various interventions! Little one is 3.5 - single words, showing developing understanding, toilet trained (very quickly and was led by them!) and also very strong willed, impulsive and ‘on the go’. With your children at a later age, wonder what activities/interventions you would go with. We access private speech - feel as though we aren’t learning much new in the way of how to help anymore?! Thank you :)
