Hello

Have been trying to potty train my dd age 3, 4 in a few months. Have had to stop and start as she just pees everywhere. Diagnosed a few months back.

We started again today (always long breaks between trying as advised) and she just pees in pants and then says potty, she will pee more in potty but not before peeing everywhere first. She gets upset that she pees pants and down legs etc onto floor!

I have a feeling she cant feel it before she actually pees.

What can I do about this ? I really think she wants to, she doesn't enjoy the pull ups anymore and she pees in potty and is proud, wont poo in one though.

She just seems to not feel the need to go before hand and so cant hold it, and go in potty from the start, just lets go.

I ask her all day if she needs, keeps saying no until the pants get peed on and she goes "potty" I have all the charts and she has sat on the big loo as well but she doesn't seem keen on the big loo (we have the family seat that has a toddler attached seat size)

Any advice welcome, thank you.

I feel your pain, we're still working on my 5 year old. Some say they just need time to mature enough to understand those sensations. I'm not even sure if mine understands the feeling just yet.

Do you take her to the potty just when she needs it? I was talking to the paediatrician about this and they suggested if you regularly got her to sit in it, there may be that one time she actually does it while she is on there.

I'm about to give the bubble blowing method a go, because apparently that action of blowing helps them go on the toilet, so I'm going to give bubble blowing on the toilet a try!

Some people find no pants helpful when potty training.

Have a read of sensory difficulties. Particularly interoception. It can make it difficult to know when you need the toilet.

Is DD constipated? Sometimes this can leave DC not being able to tell when they need a wee.

Does DD display signs of demand avoidance?

I think this is what is happening, not feeling it until its coming out. My eldest was diagnosed ahe 9 with pda profile, 3 year old was diagnosed with autism with adhd profile

Not all areas commission sensory OT on the NHS, but if your ICB does, it is worth a referral.

We are still having issues with our son. The no pants worked up-to a bit, but as soon as you put them back on it stops working. Add the fact, they are at nursery in the morning, it's a challenge to maintain consistency.

yes, she hasn't asked to use the potty once today and says no when I suggest using potty and she has a pull up on again because I cant really keep dealing with pee all day everywhere.
