ADHD behaviour management at school

DS8 ADHD gets triggered by other children very easily. If they hurt him, even accidentally he can’t cope and always reacts, normally in quite an extreme way. e.g. he got tripped in the playground last week (probably on purpose), but he wasn’t really injured. He reacted by kicking the child extremely hard in the shins. He always gets in more trouble than the instigator because of the force used.

The events above happen probably once or twice a term. School have said he can’t go out for a full lunchtime as he can’t be supervised. He is being kept inside for 30 mins. He also doesn’t get movement breaks in lesson time as they can’t supervise him.

How do I challenge this as he needs much more time outside?

Request a meeting with the SENCO. Point out removing break-time is counter-productive. Does the school have a lunch club DS could attend? Does he have an EHCP? If so, does it include 1:1 at lunchtime? If not, has an EHCNA been requested?

Does the school do the daily mile? If they do, they could arrange the day, so it is at a time DS needs a movement break? Do they get DS active during class time, e.g. handing things out/collecting them in/taking any messages elsewhere? Have they tried an exercise ball instead of a chair or under desk exercise bike pedals? If they have one, have they tried a standing desk?

What support is the school providing? Do they have anyone who can support Zones of Regulation work?

There are no lunch clubs at all. Just one supervisor in the playground looking after all of them.
He doesn’t have an EHCP as school said he wouldn’t qualify as he is working 1 or 2 years ahead. I will challenge this though as they can’t meet his needs fully.
I will suggest the daily mile. Thanks.
He has a wobble seat and band for
his chair.

The school lied to you. EHCPs are about more than academic ability. DC can be academically able and have an EHCP. You can request an EHCNA yourself. You don’t need the school to do it or agree. On their website, ISPEA has a model letter you can use.

DD1 passed year six maths SATS in year 3 and is ahead in reading comprehension and spelling. She has an EHCP.

you do not need to wait to the SENCO or school to act regarding the EHCP, you can initiate the process yourself.
