DD is 2.5 and has global delays.

I am wondering about

  1. Toilet training
  2. Going from cot to bed.

With the first I think I am going to be limited with what I can do with regard to pooing as she ususally poos in the night. However she did suprise me the other day.She was in the bath and kept pointing at the toilet,so I sat her on the child seat bit on the toilet and she cried so I took her off and put her back in bath and she pointed again at the toilet so we repeated the whole rigmarole about 4 times. Then the phone rang downstairs so I scooped dd out of bath and took her down to answer phone, when I trned round she was crawling upstairs, started crying and kept trYing to get in bathroom, then I noticed she had done a big poo on the landing step!!!So I think she has made the association between toilet and pooing/weeing.She has weed on the toilet a couple of times too.So I wonder if it would be a good idea to try to toilet her every couple of hours or so during the day,by taking her up and sitting her on it just for a couple of minutes. She cannot at the moment verbalise words for toilet but she does know what her nappy is for signing.

The other thing is she is still in her cot,but her older brother has just gone into a single bed so I noew have a toddler bed vacant. The trouble is dd is a whirlwind in the night so I am wondering if I would be better just to put a matress on the floor,as she is bound to fall out!!Or whether just to keep her in the cot-it is a big cot!!

Any experiences/advice welcome.

Thanks

I don't have experience with GD but i would say go for it with the toilet training, it def sounds like she has realised what to do.
As for the bed, can you put some safety sides on it so she doesn't fall out? If not then leave her in cot if you're happy with it. You can always leave cot up and give it a try, if it doesn't work then go back to the cot. I didn't move DS till he was 3yrs. Go with your gut instinct but don't beat yourself up if it's not time yet. HTH

Re the cot/bed - personally I wouldn't fix what aint broke

If she is safe (i.e. not trying to climb out in the night) then I would leave well alone.

Re toilet 'training' - sounds promising. I would go with it. Don't be diseartened if it doesn't work out tho, certainly not straight away. It was def a case of two steps forward then one step back with DS (although he is AS not GD).

All the best.

She's still on the young side for any child, delays or not to toilet train, so I'd follow her lead and put her on the toilet once or twice a day, but not expect anything from it.

There's no reason to move her from her cot until she either learns to climb out or physically outgrows it or she expresses a desire to move into a bigger bed. She's safe and that's what matters. She'll have moved on before she's 18, I promise.

1)sounds promising. maybe worth having a picture card or photo of a toilet she can point to around in the living room etc, so she can indicate to you if she needs the loo. give it a try but don't stress and try again in a month or two if it's not working and causing you aggro.

2)cot to bed. no rush - whatever you feel is happier and safer for you both

Thank you.

My MIL has been muttering about it so was feeling paranoid!!

Will stick to cot,and consider the toilet thing, but not push it too hard. Its just ds trained at this sge IIRC but obviously dd will be somewhat different Thanks
