Hi.
My child is 9 years old (Year 5) and since last week has been diagnosed by the above. He has moderate learning difficulties so is also behind his class peers academically.

I have told his SENCo who will meet with me after she gets the report from my child's Peadiatric Consultant. He was already on the SEN register but I think he needs additional help.

Any other parents/carers going through this? Just looking for advice/ suggestions please.

Ds has a diagnosis of ASD and Dyspraxia. The big thing for him has been using a laptop rather than having to write.

What support is the school currently providing? Does DS have an EHCP?

Thank you for your response.

Yes my son struggles really bad with his handwriting. He is only able to now start writing a few words that are readable. He struggles with memory and retaining information so is not good at spellings, or in English lessons.

He only gets some alone reading time with a teaching assistant once a week. In previous years it was twice a week.

He sits at the front of the class and is supported by his peers who help him at times.
He doesn't have a EHCP at the moment so I am looking to see what other help if/or can be available for him if I apply for this.

You can request an EHCNA yourself. On their website, ISPEA has a model letter you can use.

Support in EHCPs is based on the individual’s needs, but could include things like more 1:1, OT, SALT, pre-teaching, assistive technology and training to use it.

Without an EHCP, the school can still provide more support and must make reasonable adjustments, but the support will be more limited than with an EHCP. Some schools run jump ahead, beam or fizzy programme.

@BrightYellowTrain Thank you for your response.
I will look into EHCNA for him and other suggestions.
He does require more help then he is currently receiving at school and I think this is becoming a barrier to his learning because he is not receiving more/ or the right support.
