DD 3.5yr has been under speech therapists for approx 2 yrs now. When we started we lived about 1 mile down the road but in a neighbouring borough to the one we are in now. When we moved we were told we had to move to the new borough SALT dept and were referred. We also had to change GP surgery but due to major issues finding a local surgery to take us were finally registered with a surgery across the borough line in the same district we had moved from.
The long and short of things is that I am terribly unhappy with the SALT that is being given at the "new" SALT dept and I really would like to be allowed to go back to the old one. From my point of view they are about equal distance from where we are living now, and the medical care we get is from that borough already. The health visitor has already asked for me but was told I could not move back due to my postcode (by the "old" SALT dept)
In these days of the NHS where there is supposed to be a patient choice does anyone know what my rights are in all of this, especially given my GP is within that area and happy to see us despite our postcode. I do intend to start writing to people and finding out more including PALS which I have been recommended by the health visitor (who is very much on my side!) but it would be nice if anyone can give me any firm answers about this so called right to choice and if/how it applies to speech therapy.
Many thanks
