Do I need to ask for a referral?

Hi Guys,

I've got a few queries about my 5 year old daughter and I don't know if I'm over thinking it all and there's nothing to worry about or that I'm in denial and I should be asking for a referral for assessment! Just to add I've worked with lots of autistic children over the years but I think when it comes to my own I just can't seem to see or think straight.
My 5 year old is an absolute pleasure to be around but more recently I can't quite help but think she's different to her peers. I had no concerns about her as a baby, she hit all milestones and health visitor agreed that all was well.
Since starting nursery and school it's sort of hit me she's slightly different. She talks with a strange accent and has funny intonation, can have extreme facial expressions. She has friends but also seem to always be on the cusp of friendship groups, to me other children can find her annoying. She had a friend over this evening and just seemed to act silly and a bit babyish when she's normally sensible. She's is also sensitive to loud unpredictable noises, sudden bangs etc. She's fine with loud noises aslong as she knows they are coming.
Routine wise, no problems, no other sensory issues, great eater, sleeper etc. No obsessions, no obvious stimming that I can see. Overthinks alot and can be serious and sometimes anxious.
Her teacher did mention her accent and intonation but said she has made good friends and is very happy at school. She's very smart and capable.
Am I being silly or do I need to take this further?

Hi @Ohthatsabitshit she had a routine hearing test with the school nurse a few months ago and she said all was OK.

If school have drawn your attention to her pronunciation I would be investigating hearing and speech and language. Have a chat with her GP and see if they can refer her.

If DD’s teacher has mentioned it, I would speak to the SENCO. Also look for a SALT referral. In some areas, you can self refer to SALT.

Many thanks for the replies, I will look into it further then. Thanks again @EndlessLight @Ohthatsabitshit
