Who to approach for ADHD/dyspraxia assessment

sorry if this is a silly question but I’m feeling confused!

DS 16 has diagnoses of inattentive ADHD and dyspraxia. He was diagnosed overseas, he can’t tolerate stimulants. Extra time was his normal way of working for years overseas.

We arrived in the UK in year 9, school senco assessed him once and said he doesn’t need extra time, he’d get an unfair advantage. He was never reassessed and they wouldn’t budge despite my best efforts. He has just scraped 3 GCSE passes and failed everything else. He’ll be at college from September where he’ll need to do an extra year to do resits. I’d like to get something in place so he can adjustments before then.

Do I speak to the college first, or try to see an educational psychologist? Thank you

I’m sorry your son and you haven’t been supported properly. Best to try through the college but also speak to the GP as they can refer to local services for diagnosis.

Support in college, including exam access arrangements, is based on needs, not diagnosis. Speak to the college.

If the NHS has accepted the diagnoses, you don’t need to do anything. If they haven’t and you want to pursue diagnoses, speak to the GP.

Thanks @EndlessLight @thesendcospace I will speak to the college and go from there. The NHS have accepted his diagnosis and he’s been getting a second line adhd medication through the nhs for a few years now. Hopefully we can get him some more support going forward

If the NHS has accepted the diagnoses, you don’t need new assessments.
