Do DLA renewals ever get refused?

So I’ve finally sent off my son’s renewal forms, I put it off for a long time as our lives have been quite chaotic having a new baby and moving house. I wanted to send it off at the end of July but we also all had just gotten Covid, typical. His award runs out at the end of September so I know I’ve left it quite late gahhh.

I am now in this anxious period of waiting and it’s bringing back memories of the wait last time and how terrifying it is. Nothing has changed with him and if it has then it’s only because things have gotten harder or worse. He does now have an EHCP in place at school so I was able to add that as new evidence. The rest of the evidence was very similar to two years a go when we first applied, will that matter? Report from his school teacher, speech and language report and a paediatrician report plus a letter to prove he has been accepted for an autism assessment by children and young people’s autism service. Along with this I have written 4 pieces of extra paper with information on regarding his needs.

Anyway, my main question is.. if nothing has changed in terms of their disability and needs and what you’ve written/sent in is all very similar do they actually ever refuse to renew it for some people?

Renewals are sometimes refused even if the child’s circumstances haven’t changed, I’m afraid. If that happens, you should request a mandatory review. Similar evidence doesn’t matter though.
