DS DCD not sure what to say

Hi all looking for advice from those with experience. After a very long road my DS 9yrs was finally diagnosed with DCD/dyspraxia today. And while I am relieved for him as it means as a family we can now support him and understand his needs, I'm not sure how to tell him.

Due to being dismissed by everyone for so long (especially school - who have labelled him awkward/lazy and needs to try harder because he's bright) he has very low self esteem and has become extremely resistant to any perceived suggestion that he "can't" often having meltdowns as a result. I don't want him to feel that having DCD makes him "unable" if that makes sense because it doesn't, but due to his self esteem he may view it negatively.

Does anyone have any tips on explaining in an age appropriate way. He is such a kind, sensitive boy and I want this to be a positive stepping stone for him to move forward from so don't want to mess it up.

Thanks in advance

Xxx

Sorry that you haven't had any responses. Have you spoken to him yet? Flowers

Thank you @RappersNeedChapstick I did speak to him and it actually went really well and he seemed relieved 😌 we had a big hug and agreed that we'll keep talking and learning together. 🩵
