DLA - mobility element question

My son has had an illness that has left him profoundly - though we hope not permanently - disabled. He has no independent mobility and can't care for himself in any way (toileting, feeding, drinking, moving etc. etc.)

GP says we should apply for DLA, and looking at all the waits everyone is experiencing I'm sure she's right. But his total loss of mobility didn't happen quite 3 months ago - he'd already lost a lot by then, but he wasn't entirely incapacitated.

I've got a paper form, with a date stamp. Does the 3 months relate to that date stamp, or to the date when I send the form back?

And - who do I need letters from? He has a big team involved, so I should be able to get them from all sorts of people, but I need to know who to ask and whether lots of letters is more persuasive than one or two (could be from various consultants; GP; hospital or community physio/OT/SALT; social worker...).

It's such a horrendously daunting form.

Depending on the content of the letters, one could be enough but I would send any evidence you have.

The disability has been present for more than 3 months even if DS has deteriorated, so don’t worry about the 3 months part of the eligibility criteria. But so you know, 3 months is from the start of the award. If you return the form by the date given that will be the date you called.
