Pip at 16

I've been ignoring the fact my daughter turns 16 in the next year... But any advice in advance around pip?

She's autistic and on Mrc lrm at the moment and my fear is she will lose the award. She is in mainstream school and v clever but also autistic/some mh issues.

When we applied for DLA I found the cerebral guide so helpful as I'd brushed over so many things we did/do and now she's older we've adapted a lot as a family so life is easier in some ways.

Is there any decoding the form that's helpful for pip. Do most people who get DLA get pip? I've had tk work p/t due to kids needs (now considering ft if wfh is possible) so it would really help if she does qualify for pip.

I left the DLA form about 6months though beyond what could be backdated and don't want to do the same with pip 😬.

Definitely try to return the form by the deadline. Then DLA will continue until a decision is made. The most recent statistics I have seen show 80% of rising 16s transferring from DLA to PIP receive an award. The criteria are different, so it is worth looking at the points table to see where you think DD will be eligible for points. It is not my LA, but this guide is the best free one I know of. Some find benefits and work website/guides helpful for a small charge.

Thankyou. Yes I spent ages hanging onto the first DLA form as I got myself in knots about it and really missed out.

That's a reassuring statistic. I am wary my daughter might be one of the ones that doesn't as so much is internal and she will say she's fine 🙄 (She said this after an overdose so...) Some things have improved too and she's able to navigate public transport now so I wouldn't apply for mobility at all whereas I did when she was younger.

I've read about being an appointee too.

I need to broach with her at some point about talking about things that are tricky. The DLA I was able to fill out on her behalf whereas I'm concerned with pip when she's asked she'll say she's fine 🙈.

Before deciding not to complete the mobility component activity sections, you should read more about them. You say DD can use public transport, but can she plan the journey, is it only familiar journeys she can make, what about if the bus/train was cancelled, what if someone on there made her uncomfortable/asked her for money…
