DLA and carers allowance

I currently get both but my son's dla ends July 2024. I reapplied (first time I've reapplied) and it was received March 2024. On the dla letter it said 15 weeks wait time so still waiting. I received a letter today from carers allowance saying it will end because dla is ending. Do I need to panic or just wait for the dla decision? It's the first time I've reapplied and I'm stressing now!

It is likely the renewal will be looked at in time. If you haven’t heard by the week before, call.

No need to panic... Carers Allowance just send that letter as a reminder if you hadn't applied for the renewal. Since it is referring to your current award. DLA usually advise for renewal updates just before the end of your current award. Just inform Carers Allowance that your current award will end on dd/mm/yy and you should expect to receive confirmation for your renewal before that date simple. Just call to get the dates and check... you're still in receipt of payments for your current award if concerned. But if it ends not until July then of course you would be in receipt of the pay. But still call if you don't understand...

Thank you both!

I was just shocked to receive the carers allowance letter when I had reapplied to dla in good time. I will contact the carers department on Monday. I hope it's not an issue and they are helpful but I'll wait and see. Stressful applying and stressful reapplying, never easy is it!

It is an automatic letter. Completely normal. Nothing to worry about. Carer’s allowance won’t know you have submitted the renewal.

Once the DLA end date is within the next week you would be better contacting DLA rather than CA.

That's good advice thank you!

It's so stupid as they are all work and pensions but they are so separate from each others. Feels over complicated to me!

I recently got my decision of my son after 22 weeks waiting saying seems he isn’t eligible yet I sent evidence of sensory needs, muscles don’t work as they should, has hearing loss in both ears , hyperactivity , on melatonin for night time
anybody know why this would be rejected and if anyone’s been in the same situation did a MR and successful

BrumToTheRescue · 21/01/2025 21:45

It is worth doing a MR. Sometimes they are successful, but sometimes you have to appeal. Focus on the care and supervision DS needs rather than diagnoses. Claims are refused for various reasons. Have you asked for a statement of reasons?

They have said I will receive the letter in the post but still yet to arrive
