OT appointment- info on VIM

After nearly a year without any OT, despite it being on her statement, I took DD to an appointment yesterday. Yet more new therapists but same old story really, she needs OT, ([anger] like she hasn't always!!!) They will put her on the list for a block of sessions. They have recently started a "school team" so they are supposed to be going out to her in school to give advice to the TAs that work with her in her mainstream school.

Anyway, I could waffle on about it and the system all day but the main reason I came here was to ask if anyone can give me advice on a test/assessment they used for her.

It was, I think called a VIM, Visual .....?
Basically it was a collection of lines, shapes in boxes and DD has to draw the same image in the box underneath each image.

I would like to make something similar up AT HOME!OPPS...for her use at also possibly start introducing the concept with the little boy I support at his nursery. (he has DS too!)

Can anyone advise please?

Hello and sorry about your problems getting OT. Have you spoken to Ipsea - would have thought you could have threatened going legal if the OT is on the statement.

Don't know much about this VIM - but when DS saw the paed at joint clinic last week, DS had to draw a cross, a circle and a stick man for them.

Thank you! (waves to 2shoes!)

I may have to wait for the report to be made up- hopefully it will give a bit more information- for now I can just continue to work on some basics with her.

I have had to chase for this appointment since January as DDs 1st Annual Review is coming up this month. The only time they could fit us in before the review meeting was yesterday...during school holidays, so no-one from school could even attend!

I will push the matter, along with SALT etc at the meeting-thank you.

I havent a clue what vims are, but ds (sld)did very well with colouring from a template - ie colouring with a coloured picture to copy. I dont think he understood 2d pictures - he needed to have colour to recognise the objects. He was also given some basic patterns (like zigzags along a line with dots in the points)to copy to improve observation and fine motor control(the sort that start off complete on the top line then 'fade'and leave you to complete). He only had 2 appointments, but the ot let me copy lots of things. Only kids under 7 get ot here and ds waited so long he was not assessed until a month before his 7th.
The pack I copied (for personal use of course) was called visual perception and drawing activities pre school basic skills and was publishe by teachers friend isbn 1-57882-0863-3
Please ignore if barking up wrong tree!

I think it's probably the VMI - Visual Motor Integration test. It allows you to measure a child's visual and motor skills and how one affects the other.
