Hello there. My son has just been diagnosed with ADHD & ASD and I'm looking into the EHCP thing. Does anyone have experience with gaining an EHCP? And what kind of provisions did you get from the EHCP? Did you ask for those things or did the LA just tell you what they wold offer you?
Many thanks!

The provision in EHCPs depends on individual needs. Some examples of what one can include are 1:1, specialist tuition, SALT, OT, play therapy, assistive technology.

Parents don’t just ask for the provision, provision is taken from the professional advice and information. If parents aren’t satisfied, they can appeal the EHCP.

Thanks, that's useful to know that the professionals will suggest provision.

Hello

Your child will undergo assessment by an EP (if not already done) and they will advise what provisions they need. An EHCP is based on the EP report (Section E and F)
Provisions are also made by the reports you send in from agencies.

Hi there, thanks for replying. When you say agencies...who do you mean? Thanks 😊

If you request an EHCNA and the LA agrees to assess, during the needs assessment the LA must seek advice and information from:
a) the child’s parent or the young person;
b) educational advice (usually from the head teacher or principal);
c) medical advice and information from a health care professional;
d) psychological advice and information from an educational psychologist;
e) advice and information in relation to social care;
f) advice and information from any other person the local authority thinks appropriate;
g) where the child or young person is in or beyond year 9, advice and information in relation to provision to assist the child or young person in preparation for adulthood and independent living; and
h) advice and information from any person the child’s parent or young person reasonably requests that the local authority seek advice from.

H can include advice and information from professionals such as OT, SALT, physio, clinical psychologist.

See if you can get a direct access barrister who specialises in SEND. Can give you strategic advice early on about what you need and what will work.

Personally, I wouldn’t pay for legal advice at this stage unless money is no object. I would save your money in case you need independent assessments.
