Flooding the bathroom

My DS who turns 11 next week has Autism, ADHD and LD. If he makes it to the bathroom unaccompanied he ends up getting water everywhere - whether it is by blocking up toilet or washbasin or by filling up jugs etc and pouring on the floor. Unfortunately, it now looks as though we're going to need a new ceiling but unless I figure out a way to stop the behaviour/damage it won't last long.

At the moment I have removed all containers and spare toilet roll from the bathrooms and trying to be vigilant about monitoring when DS goes into the bathroom. I have considered external locks on the bathroom doors but I am not sure if that is workable when DS still has toileting accidents, DD4 is constipated and goes to the toilet v often, we don't have a downstairs loo and I am a single parent. My Mum thinks that I should change the main bathroom into a wetroom - this would be a good solution but I can't afford it. I was wondering about trying to improve the flooring- even if it's just temporarily.

Any suggestions gratefully received

Has DS had a home OT assessment? They can look at how they can make the home safer and better meet DS’s needs. If DS’s needs mean he needs a wet room you could look at a DFG (although that won’t solve the problem in the short term). It doesn’t promote independence and may cause some difficulties but I would put a lock on the outside of the bathroom door &/or tap locks on the taps because the difficulties are preferable to further serious damage to the house.
