Right to choose?

Hi all, just looking for some advice.

Our 4.5 year old son has had his referral to children's autism services accepted, it's a 2-3 year wait.

We've been considering looking into the right to choose, to see if this could potentially speed things up, but not sure how it works. Do we contact GP or the autism service directly?

He will break up from nursery in July and start at the local school in September. His nursery are doing a very thorough handover with the school and will do us a report of their thoughts (they believe he is autistic) to keep in case it's needed. We're in contact with the school, had a couple of meetings and DS will be having extra settling sessions, school are fully aware of the situation and seem very supportive.

He doesn't have an ehcp, we looked into it but he genuinely doesn't need it at nursery as it's small with plenty of staff with lots of Sen experience so his needs were being met, he's only there 2.5 days a week. We've been advised if he needs one at school we can go down that route depending on how his needs are.

I think we should leave the right to choose until he's been at school a little bit, so he's not in between settings and his teachers will be able to say a bit more, but am I over thinking?

You would need to speak to the GP to see if they will refer you.
