Urine Leakage - Cerebral Palsy

Hi,

I'm hoping for some advice about managing urine leaking in children.

My almost 10 year old daughter has cerebral palsy, it is 'mild' in that she can walk unaided. She toilet trained fine by 3yo but has in the past few years been aware that she leaks urine, sometimes a tiny bit and sometimes more. As she's getting older she's more aware and affected by it. She is also autistic and very sensory sensitive so this is really distressing at times for her.

We are waiting to be seen by the continence nurse, that is a very long wait in our area. I have tried explaining about strengthening the muscles you use to stop yourself weeing, and practiced that when she's going for a wee. I bought some slim pantyliners as I thought they may be helpful at absorbing it so at least she's not uncomfortable and also smelling 🙁but she has a bit of anxiety around the idea of starting her periods so it was a point blank no to those. I'm wondering if period pants might be an option, if I make sure she doesn't actually see the word period in connection to them! Has anybody used period pants for this purpose?

I don’t know if you can get them in children’s sizes but you can get washable incontinence pants that are similar to period pants.
