Make me feel better

We took our 4 year old son with Autism to his new school this week to look around. He will be starting at a mainstream
school in September after we failed getting a place in a resource base. He’s considered high functioning, but has a spiky profile. He does struggle to self-regulate.

The visit went well and he loved the classroom etc. However, upon leaving he had a huge meltdown and refused to go. I had to essentially carry him away from the building. We have public meltdowns sometimes, but this one hit me hard this week. I so wanted to visit to go well and it just increased my concerns about mainstream. Goodness knows what his new school thought!

I work in SEN myself so I know our options etc. I guess I just want someone to make me feel better. Thanks.

I have spent far to long worrying about what others think but I can understand and relate to feelings about what school thought but they don't! It's so much worse in your head if that makes you feel any better. Meltdowns at school and to and from school affect me worse than anywhere else. Focus on the visit going well x
