Unexpected benefits of medication

Hi, have been dipping in and out & have learned so much! Wondering if anyone with AuDHD kids has felt that medication has been transformational not just for the hours its active? DS has now been on Medikinet for 4/52. He does struggle when it wears off, not entirely sure school feel its helping whilst there. I think his his PDA-type autism is now far more evident & that's causing some clashes, which might outweigh benefits in focus.
I think he's very different on meds-I actually save important conversations for when he's medicated; he's reciprocal, reasonable, accepting of change and suggestions. Seems to recognise how his behaviours change on and off Medinkinet. But oh my word; the best thing is it's like someone has lifted an almost catatonic depression from him. He's gaming WAAAY less (completely his choice). His special interests have been reborn-they never went away but he's really actively doing/seeking/ things. He's outside playing. He's leaving the house to come places with me -picking siblings up/attending events.
The last year he has been driven only by screens-playing Fortnite/watching YouTube shorts. I was despairing, but recognised he was using this to regulate and allowed it hoping it was the right thing to do. I understand when he's medicated that dopamine-seeking behaviour is reduced; but it seems to be lasting way beyond the medication wearing off. Maybe he was in burnout and it's lifted? His first review is in 2 weeks....

Hello,
My DS doesn't have autism going on, but yes we have noticed improvements even while not medicated (before & after the meds each day, and during breaks).

But also, feel free to join the ongoing ADHD meds thread on this board and you might get more responses!
