Hi have a little boy nearly 7, has speech delay and ASD. He is constantly on the go going a million miles an hour repeating questions and repeating things over and over running up and down the house. We try and channel energy with lots of outdoor time engaging with all current hyperfocus' and trying to do tasks which require thinking but nothing seems to help. I am at a loss on what to try can be tricky as night time is very disturbed also

Does DS take anything to aid sleep?

Has DS had a sensory OT assessment? Do you have any sensory equipment or exercise equipment at home? DS2 needs a huge amount of exercise (in and outside the home) and DS1&3 use our sensory equipment/trampoline every day to regulate.

Also, have you considered ADHD?

Thank you for replying doesn't currently take anything for sleep the sleep consultant advised to not take anything at the moment while we are working through some different strategies, have tried loads of sensory stuff even had a sensory pod full of amazing things from a charity, he did have a Trampoline but tbh he was borderline dangerous on it and I was worried he would really hurt himself, I have thought about adhd and something I will mention to the paediatrician.

I would request a second opinion about sleep medication.

Depending on how DS was unsafe on the trampoline, would an in ground one work better? If you don’t think that would work, you could look at a bounce disk (similar to a trampoline in that you can bounce on it, but it is much smaller and not the same as a trampoline) or jumping cushion. You could also try some more active sensory equipment like swings, steamroller, steamroller ramp, bodyrocker, bilibo. Or toys such as a space hopper.
