HI. Am thinking of returning to work soon and am seeking advice as to what Norwich can offer on the ££ side with DD going to nursery for 2 days a week. The aim is to get staff funding for one to one care. Do any of you have experience of this, any pit falls?Should she have a statement or is that just for school?
DD is 8 months and undiagnosed but physically weak - can't hold head up still and not interested in toys/people/sounds.

Hi Max,Do you have a nursery in mind? If so my 1st step to be would to chat to the staff & see how receptive, clued up, & welcoming they are to children with SN.
Having a nursery with a good attitude is essential, pre school children can be statemented & receive 1 to 1 but it may be harder to obtain at 8 months unless your dd has medical needs as well.
If you have physio's etc involved with your dd they will usually go in to the nursery & advise the nursery staff & can sometimes lend equipment etc.
Nurseries can also obtain grant funding for sn equipment & toys, the area early years SENCO would be able to advise the nursery.

THanks Max. I have spoken to them but knew very little - I had managed to get more info for them about funding than they were aware of. I just wanted to make sure that we knew about everything there was to know. She will be 1 yr when I go back to work and my son is at the nursery anyway, so they know us and are seemingly quite accommodating. Thanks

Portage helped me with advice and info when I was sorting out nursery for DD (GDD, no overall diagnosis)--do you have a portage person?
