Reactolite glasses for son with AS?

I am considering buying reactolite glasses for my DS2 who is 7. He is very sensitive to sunlight but i don't think he would cope with taking glasses on and off when coming in and out of school. Anyone else have exp. of AS and light sensitivity? I know they are expensive , but i am willing to risk it if ness. He has normal sight BTW.

I'd try with some cheapy sunglasses first tbh, ds1 is as/ hfa and we're on a warning from the NHS because of the glasses thing- he has p[oor eyesight (severe astigmatism, estimates vary but worst we were given was 50%). he smashes glasses within days of being given them regardless of what tehy're like, if they're special memoflex frmaes, etc. he's 8 and has been in them since 18 months so not exactly a new thing for him!

I think glasses would be safe as long as they stayed on all the time, if he took them off they would get left somewhere. Its just that I have come to realise that one of the reasons that ho doesn't join in at playtime and doesn't acknowledge people when he walks past is that he has to look at the ground the whole time to avoid glare hurting his eyes. (He couldn't tolerate the opticians light even on the lowest setting). I suppose I could get tinted lenses that he could wear in and out in cheap frames, I maybe better speak to the optician again, I don't suppose i could get them on the NHS until DS has a formal DX.

my ds1 is exactly the same- specsavers did them when there was some offer or other on where you get them as well as the plain glasses...
However, they didn't 'recommend' them for a child- i had to sign to indicate it was my request.

You might be interested in this specialist optician. There's a video clip on the website where he treated Jacqui Jackson's kids.

yes that's worth looking into- they are the coloured lenses that help with those affected by flourescent lights etc...and one of jackie kackson's kids said the words were like ants on the page without the glasses...or something like that!!!

I know a few people who've had their kids assessed by Ian. He can help with spacial awareness, dyslexia and all sorts of things. It's not cheap but worth investigating.

karen- i remember on the tv show- he had luke waling down the corridor- with and without the glasses- very impressive
