EHCP

I have spoken to an educational consultant who told me that an EHCP application is hopeless if the child is not 2 years behind academically. My son is able academically and not behind. He has ADHD but no major behaviour problems at school, it's mainly the anxiety around school work he needs support with. Any experience that the EHCP is tied to not meeting academic targets?

The educational consultant is incorrect. DC do not need to be 2+ years below ARE.

My DD has an EHCP and is greater depth in most subjects. I suspect in your case the bigger problem will be that he's 'fine at school' (at least from their point of view). I only got anywhere with my DD's once she had a meltdown at school.

You might have to appeal, but you can get EHCPs for DC who mask.

Our DS7 has an EHCP and is very bright/ academic. He had extreme anxiety about school and the EHCP has provided a lot of support for him. Apply yourself for an EHCNA - please don’t rely on school to do this.
