After all the advice & knowledge about diet & cows milk (from hijacking another thread -sorry!) i'm convinced that ds2 is effected by his diet, (just ashamed to admit its taken me 5 yrs to wake up).

So how do I get him tested?
Do I go to the GP, or should I wait until I see his consultant paed in April?
What exactly do I ask for?
Do I need to re introduce cows milk before he is tested?

Sorry for all the questions, but I'm excited by recent improvements & want to know if there is more.

Thanks again for your help
Max x

I had my dd tested for everything under the sun via a GP referral to a Paed. Her problems were about sleep apnoea but the concern was about influence of diet. She had tests which involved making a tiny prick (or set of them) on her arm and then placing various substances onto the "wound". I don't remember her making too much of a fuss (she was 3) and it showed up clearly what she was or wasn't intolerent of. This was all on the NHS. Once she was under a consultant Paed it all happened without any lengthy wait.
Good luck

Those tests Roz describes are allergy tests so won't necessarily fit the bill. Paul Shattock does not talk about allergy being the main/only issue but insensitivity, intolerance etc and I'm not sure how you test for those, prob best to contact him and see what tests you can get done locally? I know Yurt uses a very good organisation called....erm.....erm??? Maybe she will post later. Sorry

Would second (third?) the sunderland test route. I know yurt has always said they're very helpful if oyu speak to them - I just did everythign via email. Dd1 is now gluten/casein free and has improved enormously (less spaced out, more personality showing through - cheeky little devil she is too )

If you suspect intolerances/imbalances are an issue, come and join us on the biomed thread.

I am convinced that dd1 is very sensitive to a range of things. we recently had a couple of tests done which are showing up massive imbalances in her vitamin/mineral profile, so we are going to work to correct those, and then look again to see what might need adjusting.

We are using a nutri-link practitioner (I think yurt uses them too, but not 100% sure). They are expensive, but my gut feel is that dd has issues in this area, so we hope to see some results.

Thanks everyone its all so encouraging, I know there is no miracle cure, but every little helps.
I'll give Sunderland a look, I guess they are closed for the Easter Hols?

Our tests from Sunderland came back inconclusive but we are sure that cutting out gluten has stopped the terrible tantrums and head banging AS we went back on for a while for Coeliacs (sp) test and the tantrums returned. Since stopping casein sweatiness and red cheeks ears have gone.

Even if the tests don't show anything its still worth trying the diet. You might also want to consider cutting out soy which is supposed to have very similar affects.
